Amid the ongoing stream of headline-making controversies and public debates in Thailand, the Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University, will host a special public forum entitled:
“Decoding Breaking News: Understanding Structural Inequality through Power, Truth, and Platforms in Thailand’s Media Ecology”
The forum will take place on Friday, 5 June 2026, from 1:30–3:00 PM, at the Main Conference Room, 11th Floor.

This discussion aims to encourage the public to move beyond the daily news cycle and examine the deeper social, political, and technological structures underlying some of Thailand’s most widely discussed media controversies. Cases to be explored include the Facebook live-streaming obscenity incident, the controversy surrounding Sai Scott, and allegations of bribery related to public opinion polling.
The panel will collectively unpack these high-profile news stories to demonstrate that they are not merely isolated events. Rather, they reveal deeper structural inequalities, power asymmetries, and information struggles among media users, journalists, global digital platforms, and the Thai state within today’s evolving media ecosystem.
The distinguished panelists include:
- Dr. Thanakorn Srisuksai, Manager, Safe and Creative Media Development Fund
- Supajitra Laohavatanapinyo, Director of Platform Business Supervision and Inspection
- Anupong Chaiyarit, Former Deputy Director for Media Distribution Technology, Thai PBS
- Supinya Klangnarong, Co-founder, Cofact Thailand
The forum forms part of ICA Regional Hub Thailand 2026, an international academic conference organized concurrently with the 76th Annual Conference of the International Communication Association (ICA). The event seeks to foster dialogue on communication, media, and society while bringing Asian perspectives into global scholarly conversations.
The event is organized by the Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University, in collaboration with the Asian Network for Public Opinion Research (ANPOR) and the Safe and Creative Media Development Fund.
